Research Fellow

I am an astrophysicist studying dark matter and nonlinear structure formation, with galaxy clusters as laboratories and gravitational lensing as the methodological foundation of a sustained multi-probe research program. My central scientific goal is to understand the assembly and fundamental nature of dark matter across cosmic time.
I authored the review article "Cluster–Galaxy Weak Lensing" (Umetsu, K. 2020) in The Astronomy and Astrophysics Review, which offers a pedagogical synthesis of the theoretical foundations, methodology, and scientific reach of weak gravitational lensing by galaxy clusters. An updated version incorporating corrected references and other errata is available here: [link].
More recently, I coauthored an advanced graduate textbook in Japanese, “一般相対論の基礎から学ぶ 重力レンズと重力波天文学” ("Gravitational Lensing and Gravitational Wave Astronomy from the Foundations of General Relativity"; Nippon Hyoron Sha Co., Ltd., 2025). I authored Chapter 3 on gravitational lensing, which provides a systematic exposition of its theoretical foundations and cosmological applications.
